Tom Brady is arguably the most successful quarterback in NFL history. At 43, Brady became the oldest Super Bowl MVP and the oldest quarterback selected to the Pro Bowl. Although Brady has accomplished a lot, he does recognize those who have also raised the bar in the league. One such player just so happened to have recently retired.

Four-time Super Bowl champion and fellow Tampa Bay Buccaneer and New England Patriot Rob Gronkowski announced his second retirement on Tuesday. Shortly after the announcement, Brady released a statement praising Gronk for helping the Patriots, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, attain championship success in the league.

Teammate, friend, brother, just a few of the words that come to mind when I think of Gronk. Nobody has ever embodied the idea of ‘leaving it all out on the field’ like Rob has throughout his entire career. Every single snap, I knew that no matter how many people you put in front of him, he was going to get to his spot.

Even more important is the person he was off the field. Focused when he had to be, and FUN the rest of the time. Having Gronk in your locker room was every NFL player’s dream. I’m proud of all that we’ve accomplished together, and even more excited for all you have ahead of you. Congrats Gronk, you deserve it.

After being drafted by the Patriots in 2010, Gronk played alongside Brady through 2018. Although Gronk will leave a football legacy like no other, his announcement was met with skepticism as many questioned whether he would remain retired or just come back for another season. Gronk’s announcement comes after Brady’s 40-day retirement and immediate return to the Buccaneers earlier this year.
