Kim Kardashian turned a lot of heads at this year’s Met Gala. The reality star wore Marilyn Monroe’s iconic 1962 Jean Louis gown to the big event. Imperfection is beauty, according to the late icon Marilyn Monroe, but it’s safe to say her fans don’t feel the same way about her 1962 dress allegedly being damaged.

The curve-hugging number that Marilyn wore while singing Happy Birthday, Mr. President many years ago is apparently “missing crystals.” Some of which are “hanging by a thread” after Kim Kardashian slipped into the gown at the 2022 Met Gala. The “Kardashians” star, notably dropped 16 pounds ahead of the event in order to squeeze into the historic gown.

On Monday, Pop Culture posted side-by-side photos of the gown, allegedly from before and after Kardashian wore it to the Met. One of the snaps shows signs of stretched fabric and missing crystals, particularly around the dress’ back closure. Fans of the late Norma Jeane were outraged after the photos revealed extensive damage to the dress.

One person tweeted, “Kim should’ve never worn that dress to begin with. I mean yes it’s nice to pay homage to Marilyn but she could’ve had a new dress made and replicated. This was a timeless and iconic artifact that’s been ruined,” While another said, “Leave it to kim to destroy a historial piece of art,” another said.

While some Monroe experts were “disappointed” to see Kardashian in Monroe’s “extremely fragile” gown at the Met, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Museum previously told the Post that precautions were taken to prevent any possible damage. Meanwhile, you can check out the before and after photos as well as fans’ reactions below.
