Hunter Biden has had a target on his back from the far right ever since the day his father, Joe Biden, announced his intentions to run for President. An endless smear campaign has resulted in the discovery that Biden earned $11 million in foreign business deals with Ukrainian and Chinese interests according to a report in the NBC News. It should be noted that Hunter Biden is a private citizen with no connection to or employment with the United States government.

Conservatives have criticized Biden for using his father’s influence to secure the deals. Biden, who has no formal connections or positions within the White House, has been scrutinized by Senate Republicans and right-wing talking heads for years. The findings show a relatively paltry sum of what they believe (without evidence) to be ill-gotten earnings.

The $11 million sum pales in comparison to Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka. Along with husband Jared Kushner, Trump earned roughly $640 million while both were official staffers in the West Wing. As White House employees, the couple was required to divest from their outside businesses, which they did not do.

Ivanka Trump was also banned from charitable activities in the state of New York. Ivanka, her father, and her brothers Don Jr. and Eric admitted to misusing funds intended for charitable purposes. They were also fined $2 million by the New York Attorney General’s Office.

The very same conservatives who are tremendously upset about Hunter Biden making $11 million off his last name have failed to address how none of them consider the Trumps corrupt. It is worth reiterating that Hunter Biden is a private citizen. The Trumps profited almost a billion dollars while working for the people of the United States.

Hunter Biden may well turn out to be corrupt in his business dealings. That matter has nothing to do with American politics, since he is not a politician. This is yet another example of the type of conservative deflection that tricked so many into believing the kind of misinformation that nearly killed the Republic on January 6, 2021.
