Amber Heard, who plays the female lead character Mera, said she was paid $2 million for the Aquaman sequel. Heard recently claimed that she was fired from her Aquaman 2 role because of the negative publicity surrounding her relationship with ex-husband Johnny Depp.

Heard took the stand recently, discussing how the media attention surrounding her had contributed to her struggling to repeat her role as Mera. She first played in the 2017 film Justice League and reprised in the 2018 blockbuster Aquaman. Heard confirmed her release when asked if she had been replaced in Aquaman 2.

They released me from my contract. And I fought to stay in it, and they kept me in it. I just don’t know how much I’m in, actually, of the final cut. I don’t know if I will even be in the final cut or how much I will be. It was difficult to stay in the movie.

Nothing has been officially stated about a new female lead in the film, but speculations have it that Amber Heard has been replaced by another female actress and role. It will be some time before the film is released, so the formal details will most likely be revealed after the trial and closer to the release date.
