Squid Game became one of the biggest hits Netflix has ever had. The violent and tense Korean drama was immediately picked up for a second season after the runaway success it had on the streaming platform. The series’ creator has warned fans that it could be quite some time before new episodes drop.

Hwang Dong-hyuk spoke with Vanity Fair about his thoughts on season two of Squid Game. He predicts that the new episodes will not be released until at least the end of 2023. The possibility for that to be pushed to 2024 is also very real.

It was reported that only about three pages of ideas have been generated for Squid Game season two. No scripts have been written. Despite huge demand, even the show’s writer isn’t sure how things will go.

“[Hwang] only has about three pages’ worth of ideas that he plans to turn into a script, so there isn’t much he can say [about Season 2] except that there will be more games.”

Squid Game became the first non-English-language series to be nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award. The show also took home three Golden Globes. Season two is sure to be another big hit for fans.

Netflix was reported to have made a massive profit on the first season of Squid Game. The streaming giant paid just $21.4 million for the rights but earned $891 for the company. Netflix is licking its chops for season two, but they will have to wait a while longer.
