Kim Kardashian turned a lot of heads at this year’s Met Gala. The reality star wore Marilyn Monroe’s iconic 1962 Jean Louis gown to the big event. At least one prominent member of the fashion world was less than impressed.

Legendary designer Bob Mackie worked as an assistant to Jean Louis during the early part of his career. Mackie was not a fan of Kim Kardashian’s look. Bob thought wearing the dress was a huge mistake.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mackie addressed Kim’s look from the Met Gala. Mackie claims the dress was designed for Marilyn Monroe. He believes it was disrespectful for Kim Kardashian to wear it.

“I thought it was a big mistake. [Marilyn] was a goddess. A crazy goddess, but a goddess. She was just fabulous. Nobody photographs like that. And it was done for her. It was designed for her. Nobody else should be seen in that dress.”

Bob Mackie drew the original sketch for the design when he was just 23 years old. Now 82, Bob is a style icon. His looks have been recognizable for decades.

Mackie has always been a critic of the Kardashian clan. He believes the iconic dress should only have ever been worn by Marilyn Monroe. Kim Kardashian is happy to take the criticism given all the publicity she received.
