TMZ Sports noted that Adreian Payne was shot to death on early Monday morning in Florida. The Orange County Sherriff’s Office sent officers to investigate a shooting at approximately 1:37 AM. Payne was found with a gunshot wound when they arrived.

Adreian was transported to a local hospital. Efforts to save his life were unsuccessful. Payne died after he arrived at the medical facility.

29-year-old Lawrence Dority was identified by authorities as the shooter. A warrant was issued for first-degree murder. Police have already apprehended the suspect.

The shocking death of Adreian Payne brought many of his fans to social media to pay their respects. Many remembered the special bond he formed with 8-year-old Lacey Holsworth. While at Michigan State, Payne became close friends with Lacey, who was suffering from cancer. She passed away in 2014 after helping Adreian cut down the nets after MSU won the Big Ten Tournament.
