WWE 2K22 launched amidst a ton of hype, as previous versions of the game left a bitter taste in players’ mouths. The release came with some bugs, as can be expected. Several patches later, and players are having a blast creating their own WWE Universe.

The popular streaming site Twitch has seen a ton of players sharing their WWE2K22 experiences. Stephanie McMahon spoke during WWE’s first-quarter financial earnings call yesterday. McMahon touted the incredible number of hours fans have watched their favorite streamers play the game.

“We were extremely pleased with the relaunch of our premium video game console franchise WWE 2K. After taking a little more than a year off to improve the game engine, we worked hand in glove with our partners at Take Two Interactive, listened to our customers and fans, and earned back their trust by delivering a game that exceeded their expectations.

WWE 2K22 was a commercial and critical success with the highest Metacritic scores on both Xbox and Playstation platforms in franchise history with over 5.6 million hours viewed on Twitch to date. We continue to strengthen in the performance of our mobile games, with 2K and Scopely, SuperCard, and Champions, and recently signed a new deal in the role-playing game place that will be announced soon.”

Twitch streamers can make or break a newly released game. Often, fans will trust the opinion of their favorite personalities to decide whether to make a purchase. The consistent streaming numbers on Twitch indicate that people are enjoying the game.

Time will tell what’s next for the WWE2K franchise. Many believe this was 2K Sports’ last chance to get it right. If the game’s popularity on Twitch means anything, they’ve hit it out of the park.
