AEW star CM Punk recently made a cameo appearance in the drama series, Mayans M.C. It might have just been a guest appearance, but the showrunners have big plans for Punk.

Punk had a cameo during last night’s episode of Mayans M.C. He appeared as Paul, a fellow military vet of Vincent Vargas’ Gilly. Fans just like everyone else thought this was just a one-time thing on the show, but that’s not the case.

Show-runner Elgin James confirmed to Gamespot that the character was created with Punk in mind. James spoke to the outlet and described how the casting happened.

“Straight edge, bro,” James said of how he met Punk. “We’re both on the straight edge world. We met a few years ago and I was just like, ‘Yo, I gotta do something with this dude. We gotta find something.’”

James then described how his team created the character specifically for Punk. The AEW star fits well into the crafted storyline and to convey it the showrunners found the Punk to be a perfect choice.

“We kind of crafted this for him actually,” James said. “We knew we wanted to get into the storyline with Rocco and to do right by the veterans. And then we kind of were like, ‘well, what are the right ingredients to tell this story? And then this is a perfect opportunity to finally work with Phil. He’s the man.”

Punk is now confirmed to appear on the show throughout the ongoing season 4. All that remains now is to see how his performance is received by the show’s audience when the new episodes roll out.
