Johnny Depp continued his emotional court testimony today in the case against his ex, Amber Heard. The superstar actor has had a lot to say about the nature of their relationship after suing her for defamation. Today, Depp talked about how the chaotic pairing impacted his substance abuse.

Depp testified that he had stopped drinking after Amber Heard asked him to. Heard did not stop. After they had a big fight in a restaurant, Johnny asked her to stop drinking as well. Amber relented and stated that she had no problem with her alcohol consumption.

Johnny said the constant fights made it difficult to concentrate on everyday life. The pain needed some type of numbing agent. That is when Depp began hitting the bottle.

“My substance abuse or the alcohol that I drank was again, purely that little boy who didn’t want to hear or didn’t want to feel the pain of his mother turning him into some kind of ball of insecurity and pain. So yes, I was more inspired by Ms Heard to reach out for a numbing agent because of the constant clashes.

I had to have something to distance me and distance my heart from those verbal attacks. I had to have something to be able to maintain me. Because I didn’t want to rock the boat as it were. Again, you pick your battles. So placation seemed the best route if I was unable to escape her clutches.”

Johnny Depp contended that he never struck Amber Heard or abused her physically. Those allegations are the crux of the tense defamation lawsuit. Both sides are now getting their chance to tell their side of the story. It remains to be seen what the court ultimately decides.
