Millie Bobby Brown has made us hooked on the world of the supernatural with her phenomenal performance in The Stranger Things. The young star just turned 18 this February. However, turning 18 has brought a lot of mean sexual comments on her online as well.

Speaking on The Guilty Feminist podcast, Millie detailed the challenges of growing up in the public eye. She says that she no longer shares anything personal online. Being under the limelight at such a young age has taught her a thing or two about sharing information and privacy.

The Enola Holmes star also discussed receiving a lot of sexualized comments online after turning 18. Millie added her experience in Hollywood is a good representation of how young girls are sexualized. The star added that her own experience is no different from any other 18-year-old, and it can be ‘overwhelming.’

‘I deal with the same things any 18-year-old is dealing with. Navigating being an adult and having relationships and friendships, and it’s all of those things. Being liked and trying to fit in, it’s all a lot, and you’re trying to [know] yourself while doing that. The only difference is obviously I’m doing that in the public eye. It can be really overwhelming.’

Sharing her dislike for social media, Millie added: ‘I think social media is the worst place of all time.’ In 2020 Millie shared an Instagram video detailing the insecurities she’s suffered from due to the negative comments she receives online. Being a target of sexual harassment online at such a young age can be very tiresome and draining.

Millie also talked about how she deals with friendships, relationships, etc in a new way after turning 18. Being liked and trying to fit in, it’s all a lot and she feels it every time as an actress. The 18-year-old prefers to use her social media platform to do good things that spread a positive message.

Millie is set to reprise her role as the telepath Eleven in Stranger Things’ much-anticipated fourth series. The series which has made her who she is has also taken a toll on her life indirectly. Hopefully, she can keep those things aside and show us her potential when the series relaunches on May 27.
