Francis Ngannou defeated Stipe Miocic for the UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 260 earlier last year. After that, a lot of drama unfolded as he never had the chance to fight Jon Jones. Ngannou even thought the UFC didn’t want him to square off against Jon Jones.

In the main event of UFC 270, Francis Ngannou defended his UFC Heavyweight Championship against Ciryl Gane. His performance was not the best but there was a reason for that.

It was revealed that Ngannou was injured while competing in the fight and despite that, he still won. Ngannou recently underwent knee surgery in Los Angeles, California, to repair his torn MCL and for the reconstruction of the ACL as well.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, Francis Ngannou gave fans an update on his recovery. Ngannou stated that he will be out of action for quite a while.

I’ll be out for quite a while because I’m having a knee surgery. I feel very happy, and at peace with my choices. I don’t want anything to dictate my behavior, or my choices, unless it’s my feelings.”

Jon Jones also might get an interim heavyweight title shot if Francis Ngannou is out of action for a year. We’ll have to see when Ngannou will return to the Octagon.
