Bruce Willis is one of the longest-tenured action stars in Hollywood. From Die Hard to The Expendables, Willis has been a staple in big budget movies since the 1980s. That legendary career is now coming to a pause due to a medical condition.

The Willis family announced today that Bruce is suffering from aphasia. The frightening medical condition affects a person’s ability to communicate in both written and verbal language. Aphasia usually stems from trauma such as a head injury or a stroke.

The family noted in a joint statement on their Instagram accounts that Bruce Willis will be stepping away from his acting career. Bruce’s cognitive abilities have already been affected by the condition. Now, he will take time to focus on his health.

“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities. [He will be] stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.

This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.”

Bruce Willis has several movies already completed and in post-production, so fans will still be able to see him do what he does best. With a huge back library of films, today might be a good day to remember Bruce’s career by sitting back and reliving one of his many awesome flicks. Everybody at Thirsty is sending positive thoughts to the Willis family in this stressful and scary time.
