Rachel Zegler might have snagged the lead in one of the year’s biggest moveis, but that didn’t get her an invitation. She was left out of this year’s Oscars ceremony which is a shock for many of her fans given the number of awards her upcoming movies are up for.
Zegler announced this weekend responding to a comment of a fan on her IG post recapping her pretty eventful year. A person wrote, “Can’t wait to see what you’ll be wearing on Oscar night,” to which she responded a couple of times, some in which she stated that she wasn’t invited and in the other, she said she had other plans for next Sunday.
Initially, Rachel wrote, “I’m not invited so sweatpants and my boyfriend’s flannel.” She explained later with further details saying that she tried her level best to make it happen but eventually couldn’t.
She also added in a follow-up comment that, “I hope some last minute miracle occurs and I can celebrate our film in person but hey, that’s how it goes sometimes, I guess.”
It’s still not clear why Zegler was snubbed especially since her co-star Ariana DeBose is a favorite to win Best Supporting Actress and Spielberg is up for Best Director. Her film could also nab the Best Picture award.
Although the Academy is yet to release an official list of expected attendees, a possible reason for this could be COVID. Rachel was the lead of ‘WSS’ but she still couldn’t find a place in a massive cast.
Another strange fact is that Zegler already attended two other major movie award shows this year, One of them was the Critics Choice Awards and the other BAFTAs. The Oscars should definitely reconsider their decision before finalizing their sitting arrangement.
Keep checking back with Thirsty as we continue monitoring this ongoing situation. Hopefully, she gets an invite.
