Tupac Shakur’s tragic murder still has people talking to this day. Now we have even more information about the event, because someone else could have been involved if their mother didn’t intervene.

In an interview with Los Angeles Times, DJ Quik revealed that he was stopped by his mother from riding with Suge the night of Tupac’s death. DJ Quik shared his story about his journey in hip-hop over the years. The Compton-native gave his reflection on the 1996 shooting of Tupac Shakur.

In September 1996 Tupac was ambushed in Las Vegas. The rapper was shot several times just after leaving the MGM Grand with Suge Knight. Tupac immediately succumbed to the ground. During the interview, DJ Quik said that his mother stopped him from riding with Suge the night of the shooting.

He said, “My mom was so gangster. She made Suge and them leave when they tried to get me to come with them to the Tyson fight that night. she said, ‘If y’all don’t get away from my muthaf*ckin’ door I’m gonna start blastin’. I’mma call the police first then shoot y’all in y’all muthaf*cki’ ass.’ She had all the gun.”

Looking back on the past Quik was delighted about how far he and his fans have come. “I was just in the studio with Mustard,” he said. “I’m so proud of him and YG. They listen to us when were younger. And we weren’t the best role models…But I’m proud of these guys: 1500 or Nothin’. Rance. Brody. Terrace Martin. Kamasi Washington. Thundercat. Kendrick. Ali and Dre. Snoop just bought Death Row,” he said.

Tupac’s name is still making headlines to this day as well. His legend only grows as more rappers emerge, vying for that empty spot that he left vacant on that tragic night. Keep checking back with Thirsty for more on Tupac and everything else you need.
