Brittney Griner was arrested by Russian authorities who suspected that she had a hashish oil vaping device on her. The apprehension came at a horrible time, as Vladimir Putin was preparing his unjustified war against Ukraine. Putin has reacted with hostility towards the United States after heavy sanctions were levied against his regime. Griner appears to be nothing more than a bargaining chip to Putin.

After months behind bars, Brittney’s wife expressed her sorrow at the situation. Fans around the world have offered support. A fellow American imprisoned in Russia believes the charges are bogus.

Brittney Griner has not been seen or heard from since her arrest. Russian state-owned media has finally released alleged mugshots of the WNBA star. Griner is being investigated for drug trafficking after a simple vape pen was said to be found in her luggage by a drug-sniffing dog, according to CNN.

Russia 24 aired the mugshot on television in the troubled nation. The outlet reported that the photo was taken at a police station in Russia. It is the first photo of Brittney Griner in weeks.

The State Department and several senators have been working to secure the release of Brittney Griner. In most American states, she would be facing minor charges if any at all. In a Russia that is hell-bent on destroying the makeup of the modern world as we know it, such a minor offense has led to a huge international incident.

There is no word on if talks have made any headway. Brittney’s family is hoping for a breakthrough soon. As Putin’s war rages on, anti-American sentiment in Russia has the potential to grow. Hopefully, Brittney Griner is home safe very soon.
