Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost first met on the set of Saturday Night Live in 2006. Scarlett was hosting for the first time and Colin had just joined the show as a writer. In a new Super Bowl commercial, the married couple reunites onscreen to avoid a mind-reading Alexa device.

Johansson and Jost used the Amazon device, a virtual personal assistant that plays music, tells the weather, and delivers news and sports, to carry out their normal game-day routine at home. In the advertisement, the couple is initially impressed by Alexa’s capabilities, but then imagines a world in which Alexa reads their thoughts on a daily basis.

The 60-second commercial debuts on Monday and will be aired during Super Bowl 56 on February 13. The commercial attempts to take a lighthearted approach to the situation, which Jost believes every couple can relate to on some level.

‘They exaggerated the situation, that I think are grounded in reality of couples in general,’ said Jost, but if what the commercial depicts happened in real life, Johansson said in a recent interview that it would be ‘absolutely terrifying,’ and they would try to ‘live off the grid.’

Jost stated that he would take a different approach, confusing the device with his “many thoughts at once.” Johansson responded to her husband jokingly, saying, ‘you already have many thoughts at once.’ The ‘Black Widow’ actor and ‘Saturday Night Live’ star, who married in 2020, described their first time working together on the late-night sketch show as a pleasant experience. Jost wrote a sketch featuring Johansson, who was a guest host on the show on several occasions, more than a decade ago.

Johansson described the commercial shoot as “fun,” but she hopes the millions of Super Bowl viewers enjoy it as much as they do. ‘Of course, you want to make sure it lands,’ said the ‘Black Widow’ actress. ‘It’s a little nerve-racking, but it’s also exciting to have such a large audience.’

Scarlett and her husband Colin appeared to have a lot of fun working together after all these years.
