Michael Jackson is one of the most legendary and controversial individuals in the history of modern pop culture. MJ thrilled audiences from the moment they first saw him moonwalk on national television. The star faced more controversy in one lifetime than the sum of all of humanity before him.

Prince Jackson has been a staunch defender of his father’s legacy over the years. Michael’s sister, Janet Jackson, has also come to his side when needed. Fans also remember the emotional speech given by daughter Paris at the late King of Pop’s funeral. The kids recently took in the first performance of MJ: The Musical, a new theater production about Jackson’s life.

Paris and Prince were seen on the red carpet of the show as they represented their family. Michael Jackson’s fans were thrilled to see the show of support from the kids. TMZ noted that the evening was not completely without controversy, though.

Many critics have pointed out that the play leaves out key events in the life of Michael Jackson. Most notably, the show fails to touch on the scandal Jackson faced when he was sued by Jordan Chandler and his family over allegations of child abuse. Jackson settled out of court for a rumored $23 million.

The show does depict Jackson’s ultra-successful Dangerous world tour. Several of the singer’s charitable efforts were also a part of the bit. Jackson detractors say it’s not fair to leave out such a huge part of the singer’s history.

Fortunately, it wasn’t something Paris and Prince had to endure on this night. The siblings seemed genuinely happy to be reconnecting with their father via the stage. We’ll see if the show can match the incredible success of Michael Jackson’s one-of-a-kind career.
