Matthew Stafford took the football with just minutes remaining in a must-win playoff situation. On the opposing bench sat Tom Brady, confident that overtime was coming after he led his Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a 24-point comeback that everybody saw coming. Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams squashed that idea by calmly driving down the field to set up a game-winning field goal.

Stephen A. Smith loves to troll fans of teams he doesn’t like. Smith would not pipe down about the Dallas Cowboys after their early playoff exit. Today, Stephen A. got a taste of his own medicine.

On this morning’s First Take, Dan Orlovski made sure to rub it in after Smith appeared unimpressed with Stafford’s performance. Orlovski was a teammate of Stafford’s in Detroit. Dan always knew there was an elite quarterback just waiting to land on the right team.

“I was with Matthew for a couple of years and I would watch this dude show up to work every single day. I would have writers in Detroit come to tell me, ‘Matthew Stafford’s not good enough.’

I would be sitting there like, ‘You’re out of your mind.’ I’d be walking around town and fans would come up to me saying, ‘All dude is is a stat padder.’ I’d be like ‘Dude, this dude is great.'”

Stephen A. Smith will recover from the humiliation. Matthew Stafford has a week to prepare to make his first trip to the Super Bowl. The Rams take on the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship on Sunday. If they win, Stephen A. Smith is going to have a lot of crow to eat.
