The Weeknd had a monster 2021. He kicked off the year by headlining the Super Bowl LV halftime show. He was nominated for countless awards.

The superstar Canadian singer is now ready to take the new year by storm. He announced that he will be dropping a new album on Friday, January 7. The tease came via a cryptic video on YouTube.

The new record is called “Dawn FM.” The Weeknd had previously hinted that new music would be coming with very little warning. It turns out he is looking to ring in 2022 with a bang.

He shared a screenshot of a text conversation with XO Records co-founder La Mar Taylor on Instagram. He said that with everything going wrong in the world, music was needed to heal. The Weeknd then said he hoped to just drop the album and let people enjoy it.

“Happy new year! Everything feels chaotic again. Music can heal and that feels more important than another album rollout. Let’s just drop the whole thing and enjoy it with the people… XO.”

Dawn FM will be The Weeknd’s first full-length album since 2020’s After Hours. Fans are looking forward to Friday’s new drop. The Weeknd is hoping the new record will help heal some of the fresh wounds the world has faced as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage on.
