Ashanti and Ja Rule kicked off the new year with some nostalgia. The pair performed their hit songs which blew away fans.

Everyone’s favorite early 2000s duo Ja Rule and Ashanti welcomed 2022 with style on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. The duo performed their greatest hits “Mesmerize” and “Always on Time” bringing in all the good vibes.

The pair looked stunning with their NYE looks. Ja wore a black and brown puffy coat with a stylish brown Sherpa lining over black t-shirt with his name on it while Ashanti rocked winter white short, fitted knit sweater dress with a gorgeous grey and white faux fur jacket. They surely matched the hype with their performance.

The pair also made an appearance earlier this year on Sept. 14 Verzuz Battle at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater as Ja Rule went head to head with the rapper Fat Joe. Both of the artists brought some of their best collaborators to gain an edge in the competition. Ashanti paired with Ja Rule sang some of her biggest hits, also performing 2002 favorite “What’s Luv?” Meanwhile, her ex Nelly was on Team Fat Joe.

After his performance, Nelly didn’t shy away from trying to get a hug from Ashanti- his ex. He was spotted heading towards her onstage and leaning in her for a hug. Unfortunately, the cameras cut away at the exact moment. It seemed as though the former pair did have a friendly reunion.

Ashanti and Nelly met at a press conference back in 2003 when they were two of the hottest hip-hop/R&B artists in the industry. They soon started dating and were together for a decade before they called it quits in 2014. Ashanti admitted that lack of trust is what let to ending things.
