DMX’s sudden passing in April fans left fans in disarray. A legend like DMX will should get memorialized in every way and it looks like it will traverse through non-fungible token space.
According to Variety, DMX’s will get solidified into a NFT collection. The project is being carried forward by DMX’s longtime friend DJ Superior who will join forces with Melanated NFT Gallery for a non-fungible token called DarkManX No Words.
Fan will be offered a collection of DMX memorabilia. It includes five of his unreleased songs, lyrics from his rhyme book, a freestyle battle, photographs and more. The auction for this NFT will open on Dec. 31, Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET and a portion of the money made will be donated to his family.
Melanated NFT Gallery is a black and female owned start-up company, who are spearheading into the NFT and metaverse space. They are backed by marketing executive and New York Times bestselling author Nea Simone. The objective of their company is to empower creators from African and Afro-Latinx diaspora. They are providing their platform to share their work and make some money off it.
While fans were surely elated by the news of DMX’s new NFT, they are eagerly waiting for his 2008 unreleased gospel album, if it ever drops. Earlier this year, a source close to the late rapper said the project was being offered to record labels but things might be changing.
Canadian businessman Howard Mann has claimed the rights of the project after reportedly discovering the collection of gospel records on a hard drive that was part of him purchasing the rights Seven Arts’ catalog in an auction. We will have to wait and see how this story develops.
