The world of hip-hop is known for its larger-than-life stars making big time gestures. Young Thug recently received 100 acres of land as a birthday gift. Offset received a very nice pair of sneakers from NBA legend LeBron James. Opulence is ingrained in the culture and Fetty Wap is no stranger to dropping big money.

Fetty Wap is no exception. He has been facing some serious legal issues that threaten to derail his career. Fetty has remained generous despite the controversy.

In a new interview with DJ Akademiks, the rapper discussed what it was like to receive those first huge paychecks early in his career. He said he purchased 72 cars for friends, family, and loved ones. He just wanted everyone to be happy.

“From then to now? Yeah, 72. Damn near everybody. At that time, bro, like I said, I just wanted everybody to be happy. I felt like in order for me to still be—even though it still happened, unfortunately, in order for me to try to take control of what was going on in my area, I felt like I had to show people… Just because I made it, doesn’t mean you didn’t.”

Fetty Wap might not have the opportunity to be so generous in the near future. He is accused by federal authorities of being involved in a huge drug trafficking ring that traded in heroin, cocaine, and fentanyl. The rapper is currently out of jail on bond pending his trial.

There is a fine line between being grateful for those who stood by you during your climb to the top and greed. Fetty Wap will soon have to answer to that greed. In the meantime, he is happy to continue partying and acting as if nothing is wrong. That denial will soon be met head-on by the scales of justice.
