Nick Cannon has defended his choice to go back to work so soon after his five-month-old son’s death. Nick Cannon’s youngest son, Zen, died on December 5 from brain cancer. Zen was only five months old. Cannon revealed the news on his talk show on December 7th.

Cannon explained how he is grieving the loss of his son. Nick got a tattoo of his son, and says that’s only the beginning of what he plans to do to make sure Zen is in his thoughts and prayers.

He addressed criticism he received for going back to work instead of spending time with Zen’s mother Alyssa Scott in a monologue for an episode of the talk show. He later talked about it again with TMZ.

The TV show host also said “working” is something that helps him push through all the pain and continue forward. He understands that people who are asking him not to work are coming from a place of concern. However, Nick has his own way of stoically handling grief.

“A lot of people keep asking me like, ‘Man, why are you even at work?’ Especially my family members, ‘Boy you need to go sit down somewhere, you got too many jobs already. Allow yourself to just be yourself,’” he said. “And I appreciate that, all of that advice, and I know it comes from a place of care. But to me, this isn’t work, this is love.” Nick remarked.

He continued and addressed his baby mama’s plight, “People are wondering how (Alyssa) is doing. She is making it five minutes at a time, you know what I mean? You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only option. We here. We smiling through the pain”.

Nick explained how important his fans are job in keeping him going. “If I wasn’t here, I’d be probably be in bed, curled up. But you guys give me a reason to get up and get out of bed each and every day”.

The parents kept the health issues of their infant private. So, it was a real shock to hear the little boy had passed. Our condolences go out to Nick Cannon and his family in this time of unimaginable difficulty.
