Passions tend to run high at political conferences, so it comes as no surprise that most conferences have very strict rules as to what’s allowed and what’s not. However, in a surprising turn of events, the upcoming Conservative Political Action Conference has levies a somewhat baffling ban.

It seems that Jim Henson’s beloved creation Elmo will not be allowed at the conference. What’s even more absurd is that Elmo is not the first “Sesame Street” character to be banned.

Big Bird, Bert, and Ernie were earlier disinvited from Orlando’s CPAC. What could possibly be the cause for this? It seems that conservatives take issue with the fact that the Big Bird Twitter account tweeted about being vaccinated.

I got the COVID-19 vaccine today! My wing is feeling a little sore, but it’ll give my body an extra protective boost that keeps me and others healthy.

Republicans such as Ted Cruz called this move “government propaganda for your 5 year old.” The absurdity of banning these characters was not lost on the world, and comedian Steve Hofstetter made a joke about the conference “already overflowing with puppets.”

Truly, we live in strange times. Check out the following tweets.
