Dick Vitale is an institution in American college basketball. The lively color commentator brings a passion for the game unmatched by anyone. His finds joy in his work like few of us ever will.

Fans got great news when Vitale announced his return to the broadcast booth for the November 23 game between UCLA and Gonzaga in Las Vegas. Doctors gave him the OK to return to work between chemotherapy treatments. He posted an emotional video today, expressing his happiness to be back.

“I’m on cloud nine right now. I can’t wait. Tuesday night, I will do my first game, and what a game to do! No. 1 Gonzaga versus No. 2 UCLA.

There’s nothing that will be better medicine than sitting at courtside, meeting all my buddies down there, having a blast.”

If everybody could be this positive and energetic at the age of 82, the world would be a better place. Dickie V was diagnosed with lymphoma in October. That came very shortly after he survived a melanoma scare.

Vitale says he will receive six months of chemo. That’s an exhausting treatment for anyone. It’s great to hear that he is getting a big pick-me-up from getting back to the broadcast booth. We’re hoping for the absolute best for Dick Vitale!
