Tiger King became a sleeper hit for Netflix. The perfect timing of pandemic-related lockdowns with the release of the quirky documentary had fans everywhere asking the same question: What happened to Don Lewis?

In the first season of the series, big cat zookeeper Joe Exotic devotes his life to trolling Carole Baskin, who he says killed her husband and fed her to tigers. He was convicted in a murder-for-hire scheme targeting Baskin. Now, the second season of the show has revealed the biggest secret yet: Homeland Security thinks Don Lewis is alive. Baskin reacted to the news in an interview with Billy Bush.

“I was absolutely shocked to see that they produced a letter from Homeland Security stating that Don Lewis is alive and well in Costa Rica. I always thought he had crashed a plane out over the Gulf because that’s where everything had pointed to, so I am still trying to process what I saw in that report from Homeland Security.”

Don Lewis was legally declared dead in 2002. Several conspiracy theorists believe he fled to Costa Rica to avoid shady financial dealings and has been living there ever since. Meanwhile, Baskin recently appeared on Dancing With the Stars.

Joe Exotic was recently diagnosed with cancer. He has been advocating for his innocense and for his release from prison via social media. Carole Baskin says regardless of his illness, Joe is a threat who belongs behind bars.

Tiger King 2 was released on Netflix on November 17. The hit series focuses on the true nature of the threat against Carole Baskin’s life. The show brought to light several complains about the cruel treatment of big cats in captivity. There is an ongoing government effort to shut down these zoos as a response to public interest that was fueled by the show.
