The New York Mets have put out a statement confirming that former pitcher Pedro Feliciano has passed away. Feliciano pitched for the New York Mets for nine seasons.

Feliciano passed away on Sunday night. An official cause of death has not been revealed to the public yet, but ESPN baseball analyst Eduardo Perez stated that he passed away in his sleep. Eduardo also paid his respects in a tweet.

He was a really good released but a better person off the field. He will be missed.

The New York Mets also paid their respects to Feliciano in their statement, remembering him as a “beloved member of the Mets organization,” and offered their condolences to Feliciano’s family.

Pedro Feliciano will be remembered as a beloved member of the Mets organization for his impact as a great teammate as well as his reputation as one of the most competitive, durable and reliable relievers during his time in Queens

Feliciano had previously revealed that he suffered from a rare medical condition. In 2013, doctors had found a “little hole” in his heart. However, it is unclear if the condition had anything to do with his passing away.

This is certainly heartbreaking news, and our thoughts and prayers are with Feliciano’s family and friends.
