Emilio Estevez stars as Coach Gordon Bombay who is the original leader from the trilogy The Mighty Ducks. Disney assured nostalgic fans that The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers is renewed for season 2 on Disney+. However, a latest development is bringing a frown on fans’ faces.

Emilio Estevez will not be making a return on season 2. The scripts are currently being prepared to start shooting in early 2022. At the moment, the decision taken is to simply re-write the script to take his character out of play.

Some sources close to the actor suggest “creative differences” as the main reason for the actor parting ways with the series but there seems to be another reason at play.

According to Deadline, Estevez has failed to guarantee his compliance with the Covid19 policy, via his reps. Like most Disney+ series, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers will be employing a non negotiable Covid vaccine approach for the safety of its cast and crew. This decision is agreed upon between major unions and Hollywood Studios in the most recent Return To Work Agreement that has been put in place to prevent outbreaks of Covid on-set as much as possible.

The best guess for the drop-out has come down to a disagreement between the actor and Disney’s Covid vaccination requirement. Although neither Estevez nor his representatives would make comment on whether that is true or not.
