Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey may have been loved by millions of viewers during their time on Newlyweds. In real life though, their relationship was not a picture perfect fairy tale.

Jessica Simpson met the 98 degrees lead singer when she was 18 years old. They married in 2002 and divorced in 2006. She detailed the pair’s romance, reality TV days and divorce in her new memoir, Open Book, which was released last year.

The boy band heartthrob opened up about his thoughts on ex-wife’s book on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy on Monday, November 1. The book discusses the couples romance at length, Lachey remarked that not all of it is a 100% truth.

“I obviously knew the book was coming out, but I lived the book, you know what I mean? I know what the truth is, so I don’t need to read it or read someone’s version of it in a story that I know. … I lived it. No, I never read it.”

Simpson’s book chronicled her childhood, rise to fame, marriage to Lachey, affair with Johnny Knoxville and more. Following the book’s success, it was announced in December 2020 that she was working with Amazon to develop a scripted series about it.
