Debra Messing is apologizing for recent comments she made about Kim Kardashian.

Messing said she’s sorry for a September tweet where she asked why Kardashian was chosen to host NBC’s Saturday Night Live. Messing made the tweet ahead of Kardashian’s well-received SNL gig.

Why Kim Kardashian? I mean, I know she is a cultural icon, but SNL has hosts, generally, who are performers who are there to promote a film, TV show, or album launch. Am I missing something?

Despite the apology, the tweet remains active on Messing’s Twitter account.

Messing appeared on Tamron Hall’s show earlier today to publicly apologize for the jab at Kardashian, and to reveal her reaction after watching the show. Messing explained that she had no intention of bullying the billionaire Kardashian, and that she was just wondering why SNL chose to break with the tradition of booking performers with something they have to promote. Messing referred to Kardashian as a cultural icon.

Well, I was not intending to troll her and you know if anybody took it that way, I apologize. That was never my intention. She is this phenomenon. I mean, you know, she is a cultural icon.

Messing then explained how she grew up watching SNL as a big fan of comedy, and how for decades the show has had a formula where they bring in hosts who have a project to plug.

love comedy, and they have had, for decades, this sort of formula. And I noticed that they changed the formula, and I was like, ‘Oh, does she have a new TV show coming out? Does she have a book coming out? Is she in a movie?’ And she didn’t have anything coming out.

After watching Kardashian’s SNL appearance, Messing admits she was wrong about her hosting abilities, and that she was rooting for the “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star.

I watched her and I thought she was amazing, and I was rooting for her. If you know me, and you follow me, then you know that I consistently lift up women. I support women. So you know, I hope that people understand that was never my intention.

What did you think of Kim K’s appearance on SNL? Do you believe Messing is sincere with her apology? Sound off in the comments below!
