The lifelong bromance of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon may have culminated in a big-screen smooch if it weren’t for the work of some dastardly editor, Affleck revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

The dynamic duo’s new flick, The Last Duel is set in France in the 1300’s. In the interview, the two spoke about how Damon was originally set to kiss Affleck in a scene from the upcoming blockbuster.

A last minute change by director Ridley Scott, however, nixed the idea. Rather than a juicy kiss, Scott had Damon perform a kneel down before Affleck.

“In the original actual version of that scene — the way that ceremony actually took place was that you kissed everybody on the mouth,” Affleck told ET, “And we had that in the script.”

Ben didn’t write a romantic kiss between the two friends happening in the future. He simply said that it’s going to, “have to wait.” Fans of Affleck and Damon will surely be anxiously awaiting the moment it happens. Until then, we’ll have to settle for another big picture collaboration between the Hollywood stalwarts.

The Last Duel premiers October 15, 2021 in theaters nationwide. The movie was initially screened at the Venice Film festival last month.
