Nelly once stated that his newer approach to music was all because of Ali, a prominent member of St. Lunatics. This new direction that was so inspired by Ali, apparently did wonders for his career.

It would seem though, that Nelly is back-pedaling on those statements now. Ali of St. Lunatics fame, seems to have quite the issue with Nelly. The two have gone at it on Instagram. The online argument seems to be a tad one-sided, though. Ali has an issue with Nelly’s dismissal of the importance that Ali may or may not have had on his career.

Ali took credit for creating Nelly or rather what Nelly would become at the start of his career. This is something that Nelly is now contesting, and did so rather publicly.

It was on social media though, that Ali fired back, stating:

“Last night Nelly sent one of his subliminal disses towards me and my career. The Truth is ..Nelly = [talk] … Ali =[write] I wrote it & he said it and we sold 10,000,000 [diamond]… Go to his page ….. do you notice that he hasn’t said ANYTHING about that country album !!??

“Well I’ll tell you why …13,000 !!!! Wow , that’s how many copies of that album he sold !! ‘MY’ career was writing you a career. Smh… to be continued (it’s all the most grand illusion ever pulled , and it’s all unraveling RIGHT NOW… and he’s mentally suffering trying to hide the secrets)…. now let me get ready to drop wisdom off at school !!”

It was in 2000 that Nelly achieved superstardom seemingly right out of the gate with Country Grammar. His most recent album, Heartland, a foray into the musical realms of country music, is doing abysmally however. This is something that Ali pointed out as well in his social media tirade, as seen in the above statements.

On Nelly potentially bringing the group back together, Ali spoke on that as well, stating:

“In the interview he’s saying how he had plans on bringing the whole group back together (that’s a LIE, I begged him back in February to please bring the group back, he said ‘that isn’t what I want to do’).”

Their respective careers have gone in separate directions, and despite the recent slow progress of his country album, Nelly is still doing quite well. He just got honored at the 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards. Meanwhile, St. Lunatics haven’t released anything in the last two decades.
