John Cena’s new role of Peacemaker is a very special one indeed. Fans should not expect to like The Peacemaker at all. In fact, Cena himself admits that the central character of the new Suicide Squad spin-off series for HBO Max is “a piece of sh*t.”

While speaking to Empire, John Cena dove into his Peacemaker character a bit. This will be a departure from the “Fruity Pebbles” Cena that WWE fans knew and loves for years. Maybe the hated him. Either way, The Peacemaker is not supposed to be a character that people want to cheer for. The fact that he’s Cena… that might make it hard for people to boo him.

“Peacemaker’s a piece of shit. He’s not a good guy. And he wears the goofiest costume you’ve ever seen in your life.”

“This guy is a loud, obnoxious, bro-ey douchebag. That sucks. But why? At what point did he become such a douchebag and what does that mean? There’s a lot to dive into there.”

The eight-episode series is helmed by James Gunn, the same man who was behind the Suicide Squad. Gunn penned the series himself, one that was green lit by executives when they saw how John Cena’s performance stood out in the Suicide Squad 2 dailies.

The set photo that was revealed for the series shows Cena in a realistic setting in a very goofy outfit. The Peacemaker is a complex character, and there will be murder. We’ve already spotted a photo of Cena covered in blood while in that very costume.
