Gossip Girl remains an absolute favorite for many, even after the show concluded almost ten years ago. A sequel has been in the works for quite some time now and it is slated to release this year.

The sequel will feature an all-new cast of characters and several details regarding the upcoming sequel. As revealed earlier, Kristin Bell is set to return as she will be narrating the upcoming sequel.

While speaking to The Wrap, Gossip Girl sequel creator Joshua Safran revealed that Kristen Bell was essential for the show to even happen. While the original Gossip Girl was revealed in the previous season, the sequel will feature a new blogger and Kristen Bell will continue to voice the character.

“And I think, if anything, if she hadn’t wanted to return, I think we would have thought long and hard about whether we should either. Like, I think Josh [Schwartz] and Stephanie [Savage] felt at a certain point, if we’re going to do this again, we should do it with Josh Safran. And then I felt, as did they, that if the three of us were going to do it again, we needed to do it with Kristen. I just don’t think it would have worked with anyone else. And it was so early on that it could have gone away, if Kristen had been like, ‘You know what, I don’t want to revisit that.’ We reached out to her before it was even close to going to ensure that she would be as interested as we were.”

The sequel is set to air this month and with the previous show having ramifications in the upcoming sequel, we will have to see how the sequel series will turn out to be and whether it will be a worthy successor to the original.
