Dexter starring Michael C. Hall became an instant hit with fans since its debut in 2006. Running for 8 seasons, it showed Hall’s character, Dexter, who was a deeply damaged serial killer that murdered other serial killers. The ending to season 8 left many fans disappointed and they lost hope for a new season.

It was then announced that season 9 will be airing this Fall and it will take place directly after the events of season 8. Original showrunner Clyde Phillips will be involved in the revival. Phillips left the show after Season 4, many of whom considered that the starting point for the show’s decline in quality.

Many fans have also been wondering if any of the original cast will be reprising their roles for the upcoming season. Dexter actor James Remar recently stated that the original cast won’t be returning for the next season. However, that was contradicted by Jamie Chung, who stated that the cast from the original seasons will be making a return.

Now it seems one of the original cast members has been confirmed for the upcoming revival. According to a report by Deadline, John Lithgow will be reprising his role as the Trinity Killer on the upcoming revival of the show.  The actor will “make a short but decisive appearance” in the revival of the show and may only film for a day or so.

We will have to see how effective his role will be, as the character was killed off by Dexter himself at the end of season 4. With the show expected to air in the Fall of this year, we will have to wait and see whether it will right the wrongs of season 8 or not.
