Update: DMX’s manager Steve Rifkind has confirmed that DMX is still alive, but on life support. He asked people to stop using #RIPDMX and let his family relax. They will have an announcement sometime tomorrow.

Original: DMX suffered an overdose and had a heart attack. He was then taken to the hospital and put on life support. Rumors about his passing started to spread on Thursday night, but they are not confirmed.

Luenell Campbell, a close friend of DMX, posted on Instagram that he passed away. This sparked an outpouring online as fane mourned losing a legend.

Cambell wrote in her initial story: “It is over my friend is gone. Soar w/ the [bird emoji] Join the best that ever did it. RIP… DMX.” She later deleted that story and replaced it with:

WHEN YOUR SPIRIT LEAVES AND YOUR ORGANS FAIL YOU, THE BODY BECOMES JUST A SHELL. ONE BECOMES WRAPPED IN THE LORDS ARMS. THATS WHAT “I” CALL GONE. IM SORRY TO ALL. #DMX

Our thoughts go out to DMX’s family and friends at this time. He is still on life support as of this writing.

X is a legend and inspired a generation of rappers after him. His music and influence will live forever as well, but no credible outlet or family member has confirmed his passing. He is still alive and on life support. His family is weighing a very tough decision as his brain activity has not improved.

We will continue monitoring this ongoing story here at Thirsty.
