UFC 259 saw Bantamweight Champion Petr Yan defend his title against Aljamain Sterling in the third last match of the event at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas last week.

The title match ended in controversial fashion as Yan hit Sterling with an illegal knee during the 4th round. As a result of this, Sterling was awarded the Championship via disqualification – something he was certainly displeased with.

While recently being interviewed by ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Petr Yan stated that he wants a rematch immediately so that he can fix the mistake made by him at UFC 259.

“UFC already reached out to me and asked when I’m ready to fight again. I already told them I’m ready, one month, two months time. Whenever they want to do it. Like I said I before, I was punished already for what I did. I already lost the belt and the PPV points and whatever comes with becoming a champion,”

Petr Yan said that he didn’t intentionally hit Sterling with the illegal knee, claiming that Yan’s corner had prompted him to perform the move.

“Everything happened because the referee told the commission that it was intentional. But I didn’t throw it intentionally. Now, the rematch is the only logical thing. The rematch has to happen next.”

Aljamain Sterling certainly didn’t buy what Yan said and he took to Twitter and gave Yan a piece of his mind.

And I feel like not only do you do dumb shit, you say dumb shit.

Dana White had previously mentioned how UFC is working on having a rematch between the two as soon as possible. We will have to see when the match will take place.
