BTS is famous all around the world. Their fandom marks a significant presence in most countries and it is no secret that BTS has the same effect on its American audiences as well.

After the band was ever so close to obtaining a nomination in the 2020 Grammys, fans were excited and the entirety of South Korea was ready to accept it with open arms. After Parasite’s own Oscar win and worldwide recognition, everyone thought that this had to happen, but BTS got omitted out of the nominations pool. (Klonopin) Halsey, a former collaborator then tweeted:

After the terrible disappointment that the fans were subjecting to, they were expecting the same outcome from the nominations of the 2021 Grammys as well. However, the Recording Company knew better than to repeat their mistakes, and they added the name of BTS alongside many big names in music such as Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and many more for the nomination of Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category.

The success of BTS’ song Dynamite had a huge role to play in their nomination, which remains both a fan favorite as well a wrecking ball on the charts. If BTS wins the Grammy on March 14th, 2019, they’ll have become the very first South Korean group to have done so.

The very first artist from South Korea to have ever won a Grammy was coloratura soprano Sumi Jo in 1992. After her, the record engineer Byeong Joon Hwang won the Grammy in 2015. If BTS wins the Grammy, it’ll be a great cultural victory for South Korea as well as the BTS fandom.
