Prepare for more spine-tingling horror as Ethan Hawke is set to reprise his role as The Grabber in “The Black Phone 2.”

While the first film left audiences speculating about the fate of The Grabber, Deadline confirms that Hawke is making a chilling comeback in the sequel. Notably, he won’t be alone in his return, as original cast members Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and Miguel Mora are also set to make a comeback.

The sequel is in the capable hands of the original director, Scott Derrickson, and writer C. Robert Cargill, although it’s yet to be confirmed whether Derrickson will direct the follow-up. Fans of the eerie story can mark their calendars, as “The Black Phone 2” is scheduled for release on June 27, 2025.

The first film was adapted from a short story by author Joe Hill, and he’s onboard as a producer for the sequel. Given that the original story was part of an anthology collection, some fans speculated that the sequel might explore other tales set in the same world, not directly connected to the events of the first film. As the project is in its early stages, it’s possible that the returning cast may only have minor roles, with new characters taking the spotlight.

“The Black Phone” centered on a young boy who is kidnapped by The Grabber and imprisoned in his basement. During his captivity, he receives otherworldly transmissions through a black phone, which connect him with The Grabber’s previous victims. Hill acknowledged the potential for an enduring horror icon, comparing The Grabber’s mask to the iconic imagery of Freddy Krueger’s glove and Michael Myers’ mask.

In an interview in 2022, Hill hinted at the possibility of a sequel, saying, “There have been some really, really good conversations about a sequel.” He emphasized the importance of maintaining the film’s scariness, intensity, and organic feel while avoiding cheapening the original.

As we eagerly await the return of Ethan Hawke’s chilling character, “The Black Phone 2” promises to keep us on the edge of our seats with its release on June 27, 2025. Are you ready for the scares that await in this anticipated sequel?
