Back in the day, during his initial WWE stint from 2002 to 2004, Brock Lesnar had epic feuds with a slew of WWE wrestlers, and one of them was the memorable clash with Zach Gowen. In a recent interview, Gowen spilled the beans about a jaw-dropping stunt that was originally planned for their showdown.

On the September 4, 2003, episode of SmackDown, Lesnar shoved wheelchair-bound Gowen down a flight of stairs in a backstage segment, a moment etched in WWE history. Just a month before that, The Beast Incarnate had opened up a nasty cut on the one-legged wrestler’s face right in front of his own mother at ringside.

Gowen dropped a bombshell on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, revealing that their iconic wheelchair moment wasn’t the initial plan:

“So the wheelchair spot, that wasn’t a wheelchair spot to begin with. The original idea, I don’t know if we’ve talked about this, the original idea was for Brock Lesnar to F-5 me off of the SmackDown fist through the stage. That was the original idea.”

For those who remember, the SmackDown fist was a massive part of the stage setup, positioned above the area where the superstars made their grand entrances. It’s an iconic piece of WWE history, used from 2001 to 2008.

So, why didn’t we see Lesnar toss Gowen off the SmackDown fist and create an unforgettable moment? Well, at the time, WWE was known for its high-risk stunts, with the likes of Jeff Hardy and Shane McMahon wowing the crowds with their daredevil feats. Gowen was excited to join the ranks of these high-flyers, but WWE’s creative team struggled to come up with a believable reason for Lesnar and Gowen to be perched precariously on top of the fist.

“Brock Lesnar was going to toss me off this bad boy and I was gonna go through the stage,” Gowen revealed. “That was the plan for like two or three weeks, but we had to pivot, so to speak, to the wheelchair spot down the stairs because creatively, we couldn’t figure out a plausible way for me and Brock Lesnar to be on top of the fist.”

Gowen also shed some light on what it was like to work with Lesnar during their WWE rivalry in 2003.

So, there you have it! A mind-blowing stunt that could have been but never was in the world of WWE. Would you have loved to witness this epic moment between Gowen and Lesnar? Let us know in the comments below!
