Selena Gomez is no stranger to the limelight, but her recent involvement in the Israel-Hamas conflict has landed her in a storm of controversy. The Jewish organization, American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise (AICE), didn’t mince words when they labeled Gomez a “coward” for her actions.

TMZ caught up with Mitchell Bard from AICE, and he didn’t hold back in his criticism of the pop star. He argued that Gomez had succumbed to the immense pressure celebrities face to boycott and demonize Israel. Instead of addressing the tragic events, such as the massacre of 1,400 Israelis and the hostage-taking of 240 individuals, including the elderly, disabled, women, and even children as young as nine months, Gomez seemed more concerned with her business interests.

According to Bard, the threat to Rare Beauty, the cosmetics brand associated with Gomez, arose when the company’s CEO started following pro-Israel accounts. AICE expressed deep disappointment with Gomez’s decision to “appease bullies” seeking to boycott Rare Beauty by aligning herself with the popular stance that portrays Palestinians as victims. Gomez made her pro-Palestine sentiments clear in a statement shared on Rare Beauty’s Instagram.

In contrast, Alia Malak, a founding member of the Palestinian organization Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS), praised Gomez’s actions. Malak told TMZ that Gomez is just one of thousands of artists and cultural figures worldwide who are demanding a ceasefire, justice, and accountability in the Israel-Hamas conflict. She emphasized that these celebrities, including Hollywood figures, leading Black scholars and artists, Jewish writers and artists, prominent authors, visual artists, and many others, are on the right side of history.

Malak added that UN experts and others have warned of a potential Israeli genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. Artists like Gomez are using their platforms to call for an end to oppression, much like those who protested against apartheid in South Africa. They aim to contribute to freedom, justice, and equality.

Rare Beauty addressed the conflict on its Instagram, acknowledging the suffering of 1,400 Israelis while condemning attacks on civilians. However, the brand emphasized its primary concern was “protecting Palestinian civilians.” Rare Beauty has since shared resources on the humanitarian crisis while reminding everyone to practice kindness in these challenging times.

Selena Gomez may have found herself in the crossfire of a heated debate, but she’s not shying away from using her voice to stand up for what she believes in, no matter how controversial it may be. Stay tuned for more developments in this ongoing saga.
