Paul Wight Reveals He Didn’t Pursue Captain Insano Role in ‘The Waterboy’

Former WWE Superstar Paul Wight used to be known as Big Show and has been a major part of AEW for the past couple of years. Wight is also known for his role in movies such as ‘The Waterboy,’ where he was Captain Insano. Wight has now opened up about auditioning for the movie.

AEW previously filed a trademark for his “Captain Insano” character, which Wight played in the 1998 film Waterboy starring Adam Sandler. This eventually led to Wight making a cameo as Captain Insano during The Acclaimed’s music video last year and another cameo with MJF and Adam Cole earlier this year.

While speaking on the Battleground Podcast, Paul Wight talked about his role as Captain Insano in The Waterboy. Wight admitted that he didn’t even try to get the role. He also revealed how he became friends with Adam Sandler because of the movie.

 “I just went crazy. I honestly didn’t even think I was going to get the part. I didn’t even try to get it, which is so weird to think. And then when I showed up to do it, … I read the script, did it in one take, and [they went], ‘That’s great! Thanks!’ I went, ‘I’m really good at this!

I would run into Adam Sandler at Super Bowl events here and there, and he would always be with his family. Adam used to introduce me to everyone, [and his mother] would hold my hand and she would [say], ‘This is Adam’s big friend, Paul. He’s a pro wrestler.’”

Paul Wight is currently set to make his in-ring return alongside Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega as part of their feud with The Don Callis family. We will have to wait and see how his performance will turn out.
