Brock Lesnar has not been having the best of times on his road to WrestleMania, as his opponents for the Show of Shows have constantly changed. He is set to face Omos at the event, but it’s clear Omos was not Lesnar’s first opponent. In fact, a huge Lesnar match was bumped from WrestleMania 39 for a match with Steve Austin.
The highly anticipated WrestleMania event always brings with it a flurry of rumors and speculation regarding potential matchups between WWE’s biggest stars. This year was no different, as reports began circulating about several possible opponents for Brock Lesnar.
This included GUNTHER, Bobby Lashley, Bray Wyatt, and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. As the event drew closer, each of these names was gradually removed from the list of potential opponents. This left Lesnar to face off against Lashley at the WWE Elimination Chamber in February. Even then, the possibility of Lesnar facing a different opponent at WrestleMania remained on the table
Right before their rematch, Bray Wyatt announced that he wanted to face the winner at WrestleMania. Lesnar ultimately got himself disqualified in Montreal, putting Lashley vs. Wyatt into the works.
According to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Lesnar vs. Lashley was moved up to Elimination Chamber so that Lesnar would have time to get ready for a match with Steve Austin at WrestleMania 39.
However, as previously reported, Steve Austin ended up declining a match with The Beast Incarnate at WrestleMania 39. Therefore, Lesnar was basically in limbo until WWE decided to have him feud with Omos.
There’s still the chance of Steve Austin making it for WrestleMania 39, but not in a match. Regardless, we’ll have to wait and see how Brock Lesnar vs Omos will turn out at the Show of Shows.
