On the night of the Oscars, Denzel Washington and Spike Lee chose to prioritize a different event altogether, namely the Lakers and Knicks basketball game happening in Los Angeles. The two highly acclaimed actors and filmmakers skipped the Academy Awards ceremony to catch the game live.

Denzel Washington and Spike Lee opted for courtside seats at Crypto.com Arena on Sunday evening instead of stage-side seats at the Oscars ceremony. They appeared to be pleased with their decision and enjoyed the basketball game.

The men were observed embracing each other before the game, indicating that they were not bothered about skipping the Oscars. The Academy Awards ceremony was being held simultaneously less than 10 miles away at the Dolby Theatre.

Naturally, Lee is a passionate supporter of the Knicks, while Denzel roots for the Lakers. The two engaged in friendly banter about their respective teams during the game. In the end, Lee had the last laugh as the Knicks emerged victorious with a score of 112-108. However, it appeared that Washington was not too upset about the outcome.

It’s unclear whether Denzel Washington and Spike Lee attended after-parties following the game or if they opted to head home to catch up on NBA highlights. Regardless, they definitely had a blast.

What do you think of Denzel Washington and Spike Lee’s decision to skip the Oscars for a Lakers and Knicks game? Would you have done the same? Sound off in the comments!
