James Cameron, the director of the blockbuster movie Avatar, was noticeably absent at the tonight at the 2023 Oscars. Despite his movie being nominated for Best Picture, Cameron did not attend the event due to “personal reasons,” according to his producer Jon Landau.

Although Cameron didn’t attend the event, he was spotted at the pre-Oscars party held by Creative Artists Agency this past Friday. Cameron’s absence didn’t go unnoticed by the audience or even the host Jimmy Kimmel. Kimmel addressed Cameron’s absence in his opening monologue at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

“Kimmel jokingly said, “”You know, Tom [Cruise] and James Cameron didn’t show up tonight. The two guys who insisted we go to the theater didn’t come to the theater.”
