“Breaking Bad” is a landmark television series that has left an indelible mark on the pop culture landscape. The show’s riveting storytelling, impeccable direction, and outstanding performances have made it a fan favorite. One character who has truly shone throughout the series is the lovable, complex, and dynamic Jesse Pinkman, played by Aaron Paul.
Pinkman is a former student and partner-in-crime to the show’s protagonist Walter White, and as the show progresses, he becomes a key player in the drug empire that White builds. Paul’s portrayal of Pinkman is nothing short of phenomenal, bringing a rawness and authenticity to the character that is both captivating and heartbreaking. However, the character of Jesse Pink was almost played by someone else.
Penn Badgley who is best known for his role in You has described the role of Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad as the one that got away.
During a recent interview with Buzzfeed, Penn Badgley revealed the circumstances that led to him missing out on the role of Jesse Pinkman which ultimately went to Aaron Paul.
“One I got so close on was ‘Breaking Bad.’ It was between me and Aaron Paul,” he said. “We tested. And actually that was the best television script I’d read, at that point. That was the one that got away.”
Penn also mentioned that Aaron looked like a meth addict meaning he was in character for the audition which probably helped him land the role.
“Right when he walked in, I was like, ‘Oh my God, that guy looks like a meth addict.’ In a good way! He was just in the role. I was like, ‘This guy is going to steal it from me.’”
While Aaron Paul did justice to the role, we can’t help but wonder what would’ve happened had Penn Badgley bagged the role instead. Stay tuned to Thirsty For News as we bring you similar stories.
