Michael Austin Cera rose to fame for playing George Michael Bluth in the sitcom Arrested Development. The actor is well-known for playing awkward, eccentric characters in coming-of-age comedies. However, the actor is not active on social media and doesn’t even own a smartphone and now he is being transparent about his unusual choice.

The actor recently appeared in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter where he explained his reasons for not using social media apps and for not having a smartphone. Michael acknowledged that he has never felt forced to use social media, adding that the choice “doesn’t feel conscious.”

“I guess it’s just something that I didn’t elect to do. Because everybody does it, it starts to feel like a big choice. But it’s just not interesting to me.”

Having said that, Michael did a “conscious choice” not to have a smartphone. Michael acknowledged, “I feel a bit of fear about it honestly like I’d really lose control of my waking life.” He continued by recalling a time when he went out with a friend who had recently purchased a smartphone.

“I had lunch with a friend of mine who was my best friend at the time, and he’d just gotten a Blackberry, and for the whole meal he was typing emails, and I was sat there lonely and bored. So I had an early aversion to them.”

Michael acknowledged that it was “very possible” that his choice to avoid social media had a negative effect on his professional life. He further stated that “a lot of people” have expressed their envy of his decision to avoid social media or own a smartphone. Keep an eye on Thirsty For News to get more updates.
