Robert Downey gained recognition all over worldwide because of his appearance in the classic Marvel series. However, it appears that there are some speculations floating about Marvel having a comeback. Even Robert Downey Jr. might be making a comeback for Marvel in the near future.

Robert Downey Jr.’s run as a superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe might not be over after all. Avengers: Endgame (2019), which bid farewell to Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, marked the dramatic conclusion of Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disney has now accelerated into Phase 5 of the MCU, four years later.

Beginning in 2021, Phase Four featured the Disney+ Original WandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany as the Vision. Then, in 2021, Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster/Mighty Thor, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law were all released.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), which brought in more than $1.3 billion, marked the end of Phase 4 with a box office slam dunk. While it appeared like Phase 5 will begin with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, additional Avengers projects, and Spider-Man 4, it now appears that Disney may have another surprise in store.

According to GFR, Robert Downey Jr. might make a brief appearance in Spider-Man 4. Naturally, the events of Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), and Spider-Man: No Way Home will be continued in this movie (2021).

While this doesn’t guarantee that RDJ will appear in any capacity other than a cameo—possibly along the lines of what happened with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire in the final Spider-Man, it would be intriguing if Marvel decided to work with the Iron Man actor again after essentially signaling that it was moving on and considering new endeavors after Endgame.

Is it feasible that Marvel would be receptive to Tony Stark making a comeback from a different reality? Considering that multiple villains who had passed away appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it is obviously not impossible. What makes this more intriguing is the possibility that RDJ and maybe even Chris Evans will return to their respective roles in the future. It could not even be in Avengers: Secret Wars or The Kang Dynasty.

Who’s to say, instead, that RDJ won’t make a comeback in the MCU long into Phase 6? There are undoubtedly many options, and it’s intriguing to note that Robert Downey Jr., at the very least, is still interested in potential Marvel Universe ventures if the time was right.
