Dave Bautista understands that 2023 will be a turning point in his acting career. He will have his most significant speaking role to date in M. Night Shyamalan’s “Knock at the Cabin,” as well as a larger role in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” sequel. Bautista recently expressed his relief over Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) exit.

Bautista is leaving the MCU, with “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” serving as his final appearance as Drax the Destroyer. It’s a character that’s lasted nearly ten years and seven distinct MCU films, but it’s one Bautista is keen to get out of. Bautista recently told GQ magazine that he doesn’t want Drax to be his acting legacy.

I’m so grateful for Drax. I love him. But there’s a relief [that it’s over]. It wasn’t all pleasant. It was hard playing that role. The makeup process was beating me down. And I just don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy — it’s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff.

Bautista believes his other 2023 film projects are a step on the right path when it comes to shaping his post-Marvel acting career. Bautista wishes to accomplish far more than what the MCU has to offer. The actor has consistently defended his portrayal as Drax, yet he has also openly expressed dissatisfaction with the part.

Bautista previously said that if Marvel had developed the character more completely, it would have given me the ability to reveal different sides of Drax, both emotionally and physically. “Knock at the Cabin” by M. Night Shyamalan hits theatres on February 3, followed by “Guardians Vol. 3” on May 5 and “Dune: Part Two” on November 3. Keep an eye on Thirsty for more.
